What are meta tags and for what are they used?
If you ask someone what is digital marketing, he will definitely tell you about the Google AdWords, Google Analytics, SEO, etc.. But apart from this, there are hundreds of minor things that you need to know about digital marketing. And Meta tags are one of them.
So what are Meta tags?
Meta tags are considered the vital part of the SEO to determine your page ranking on Search Engine Ranking Page, but then people start abusing it to increase their ranking in SERP till Google opted Meta tags out of ranking factors. But an SEO practitioner must know the importance of Meta tags.
Meta tags are the words that are hidden in your website HTML code within the opening and closing head section. These tags are not displayed, but are readable to the browser; it tells what your site is about in a simple, summarized way. Meta tags also contain your keywords which are the most important part of SEO.

So following are the three parts of Meta tags that we have to use
Title tag, Description tag, keyword tag
The title tag is displayed on search engine page rank as the clickable big blue headline for a given result. Title tags used to show what the given page is about when it showed on SERP in the shortest and crispy. There is no exact character limit in google but it is good practice if you limit your title to 50-60 characters.
So, where you can add the title tag?
You can add the title tag in the head section in your site’s HTML. It should look something like below.

Also try to write a title of an SEO point of view, use keywords in your title if possible, for good results in SEO. If you are writing an article on any blogging sites, the section where you write a headline will automatically form the title tag.
Description tag: The Meta description tag serves the function of advertising copy. It is where you would want to write a summary of your site. It appears underneath the clickable link. The summary helps readers to understand what your site is about and is that relevant to their search.

Meta Description can be lengthy but for effective SEO it has to be in 160 characters. Here is another chance for us to write our keywords but wisely, stuffing too many keywords considers spamming. It should be relevant to the page it describes.
Things to consider while writing Meta description. Avoid writing the same Meta description for different pages. The description tags must be unique for each page. Don’t use double quotation marks in your description.
Keyword Meta tag: These are the words separated by the comma in the HTML code that describe the context of a webpage in short one or two-word phrases. Meta keywords used to reinforce content that is already on the page. Using the meta keywords excessively make the search engine to consider it spamming.
